Horses have held a special place in most peoples hearts. Being one of the native animals in America, it has grown to have its own special place in American History. Horses are beautiful creatures that are loyal and caring. To deal and take care of them, one has to follow certain precautions.
These precautions are don e so that accidents are less likely to occur. And in the world of hose racing injuries mean loss of money to the owner and to their backers. In the case of horses, whether for show or for race, it is a necessity to avoid such incidences. Most people would say preventions the best solution and they are correct. For horses to be in their top shape, race owners have to spend more cash for additional horse therapists and others to keep the horse alive and kicking…literally.
Horse slips and falls are the most common ways by which horses get the most injuries. Horses that are overworked have the tendency to develop cramps and when cramps occur, the muscles in the leg contract and do not expand. When the muscle is forced to expand when being contracted, the muscle tears - and there becomes a very serious injury. Horses that tear muscles usually have to be barned for over 5 to 6 months to let the muscle heal then take another few months to get the horse back into shape. Normally horse owners are faced with the choice of rehabilitating the horse or letting the horse out to pasture.
The barns or stables where the horse is housed should not be messy and they have to be cleaned on daily basis. Old and festering horse manure is toxic to the senses and can be irritating once left by alone.
Horses should not be allowed to enter the barn by themselves. Unlike other animals, horses are led into the barn so as to establish a dominance connection between the groom and the horse, Horses who stray tend to revert back to old instincts and may act these instincts out and starts kicking whatever is near.
Horses have to be lead by a "lead" rope than by a halter. If a halter is used, there is a chance that the horse may easily get away when startled.
Likewise, for the handlers part, the halter has rings that people may put their fingers through and if the anal pulls away, one could seriously hurt themselves. Horses that have just been from a race are still edgy and reactive and any sort of sound or event may trigger them to bolt the stable and hit whatever is in its way.
Horses have their share of injuries just like human athletes. Taking care of an injury may cost the owners much lost betting money and sometimes the best alternative is to sell the horse instead of keeping them.
